I am Hem Nath Ghimire,
from NEPAL. Presently, I am pursuing my doctoral course in Rock Mechanics
at the Rock Mechanics Laboratory of Hokkaido University, Japan.
I was born and brought up in Pustun
Village (presently known as
Bahundanda) in Lamjung
District, western NEPAL.
After my preliminary education at Chandrodaya School, I
received full scholarship in district level selection to study in
Budhanilkantha
School, Kathmandu from class four. I passed the SLC
(School Leaving Certificate) exams in 1983 and got admitted to Amrit
Campus (popularly known as ASCOL) for my Intermediate in Science. After my
ISc, I received Colombo Plan scholarship for my BE in Mining Engineering
at
Bengal Engineering College
(deemed university), Shibpur, West Bengal, India. After completing
my BE (Mining) in 1991, I joined the HMG (Nepal) service as a Mining
Engineer and was deputed at Department of Mines and Geology (DMG),
Kathmandu.
I worked for about five years at DMG till I received
scholarship at
Asian Institute of Technology
(AIT), Thailand and went there in September 1996 for my
masters in Geotechnical Engineering. After graduation in Aril 1998 from
AIT, I joined Leo Jovian Thai Engineering Company Limited in
Bangkok and was involved in the instrumentation part of the Hua Lamphong -
Sam Yam section of the MRTA (subway) project and worked until August 2000.
In the mean time I received the Monbukagakusho scholarship (Japanese
Government scholarship) for my doctoral course in
Rock Mechanics in
Hokkaido University,
Sapporo in the newly
established
English Graduate Program for Socio-Environmental
Engineering (EGPSEE) and came to Japan in October 2000.
I married Lila in
February 1992. She was born in Besisahar, Lamjung and brought up in Sarda
Nagar, Chitwan. She completed her school in Sarda Nagar and joined
Birendra Campus, Bharatpur for her Intermediate course. We are gifted with
two sons, Shaurav and
Gaurab. Shaurav was born on 26th
November 1994 and Gaurab on 5th December 1998.
